Entrepreneurship

Welcome to the core of Benson Fechter's vision for Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional District - a place where young innovators can turn ideas into thriving businesses, fueling economic growth and personal success without insurmountable hurdles. As a proven leader battling for PA-12's resilient workforce, Benson knows that entrepreneurship isn't just a career path; it's the engine of opportunity, job creation, and community revival. Yet, young millennials and Gen Z across our district are stifled by high startup costs, limited access to capital, and bureaucratic red tape, making it unacceptable that on a median salary, launching a business feels like an impossible gamble.

That's why Benson is launching the Entrepreneurship Ignition Initiative: a dynamic, data-driven plan to incentivize entrepreneurship among young adults under 35, dismantle barriers, and position PA-12 as a hub for innovation. Rooted in district-specific challenges and national trends, this isn't vague promises - it's a strategic blueprint for our urban hubs, suburban stretches, and rural pockets. Benson Fechter will push this in Congress, building bipartisan coalitions to deliver real wins for our residents. Join us in making PA-12 the launchpad for the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurship drives prosperity: new businesses create nearly all net new jobs in the US, accounting for 1.5 million positions annually, while boosting economic growth through innovation and competition. Yet in PA-12, young adults under 35 - vital to our future - are increasingly sidelined. Nationally, the US Total Entrepreneurial Activity (TEA) rate rose to 16.5% in 2024, with 19% of adults engaged in starting or running new businesses, marking historic highs. Young entrepreneurs lead the charge, starting businesses at 24%, and intending to at 21%, while 55% of US adults have started at least one business in their lifetime. However, Gen Z and millennials face steep obstacles: 39% cite lack of money, 29% insufficient business knowledge, and overall, risk of failure (31%), financial shortages (29%), and inexperience (28%) top the barriers.

In Pennsylvania, the story is mixed: the state boasts 1.1 million small businesses employing 2.5 million people, with small firms adding a net 46,429 jobs recently - 92.9% of total job growth. But PA ranks 16th most expensive for starting a business in 2025, with a sharp drop in national standings (down 30+ places), and 61% of small businesses reporting poor or fair financial conditions in 2024. For PA-12's young residents, earning $55,000-$59,000 median in entry-level roles, startup costs average $40,000 in the first year nationally (median $25,000), far outpacing wages and leaving 60% of Gen Z aspiring to entrepreneurship without viable paths. This traps potential: youth are 1.6 times more likely to start businesses than adults, yet barriers could cost PA-12 $400 million in lost economic activity from untapped ventures.

Benson Fechter won't tolerate this. Young entrepreneurs deserve a system that empowers, not impedes. Here's how we ignite the spark.

Measuring Success: Real Results, Real Accountability

We'll track with benchmarks: 10% rise in under-35 entrepreneurship rates in PA-12 by 2028, via Census and SBA data. Benson will host quarterly forums with local entrepreneurs and leaders district-wide, translating metrics to $1 billion in new economic activity from empowered youth ventures.

This is Benson Fechter's pledge: In a district where 60% of young people aspire to entrepreneurship but face historic barriers, we'll unleash potential. From workshops to startups, we're building a PA-12 where young creators don't just dream - they dominate.
